Text (Variety) Beyonce Knowles (news) and Outkast paced the race for the 35th NAACP Image Awards nominations, nabbing five and six nods, respectively.

Winners will be announced March 6 at the Universal Amphitheatre. With the awards, the org honors people and companies that support positive change for blacks in arts and entertainment.


Outkast received two noms each for their tunes "Hey Ya!" and "The Way You Move." The group was also recognized for their double album "Speakerboxxx/the Love Below" and in the artist category.


Beyonce was acknowledged for both of her jobs: singer and actress. She picked up four music noms, including new artist and female artist, as well as music vid and song for "Crazy in Love," featuring Jay-Z. As a thesp, she nabbed a nod for "The Fighting Temptations."


Meanwhile, duking it out in the motion picture category will be "Bad Boys II," "Bend It Like Beckham," "Deliver Us From Eva," "The Fighting Temptations" and "Whale Rider."


On the TV front, Showtime's "Soul Food" and Fox's "The Bernie Mac (news) Show" dominated. "Soul Food" grabbed seven nominations, including drama series, while "Mac" ranked in with six, including comedy series and noms for all five principal cast members.


Joining "Soul Food" in the drama competish are "24," "Boston Public," "CSI: Miami" and "The Wire." As for comedy, "Girlfriends," "Half and Half," "My Wife and Kids" and "Whoopi" also made the cut.


Showtime led the TV race with 16 nominations, while Fox, ABC and NBC followed with 11 apiece. The big film winner was Sony/Columbia with six overall noms; Warner Bros. got five.


Arista Records, home to Outkast, took top billing on the record label end with nine nods. J Records/BMG took second place with eight thanks to strong showings from Luther Vandross (news) and Alicia Keys (news).


Nominees for male artists are Vandross, Gerald Levert (news), Mos Def, Musiq and Seal; female artists are Keys, Aretha Franklin (news), Beyonce, Heather Headley (news) and Mary J. Blige (news).
